Lale’s Camp

Seasonal Camps
We know that currently there is one seasonal camp, Lale’s Camp. Based in the Omo Valley, it’s a first in Ethiopia, and serves as an excellent base from which to explore the Omo.

The standards of comfort that we have introduced into our seasonal camps is a first for Ethiopia. The quality of accommodation, bathrooms and dining are, as yet, unparalleled in the country, and we are extremely proud to be pioneering this soft adventure space.

The only one of its kind, Lale’s Camp is located in the Omo Valley, on the eastern banks of the Omo River. Named after Lale Biwa, Wild Expedition’s co-owner, Chief Guide, a brilliant logistician, and from the Omo Valley himself, the camp was refurbished in 2018, comes with a mess area and a maximum of seven sleeping tents, and serves as excellent base for day and overnight trips. The food is hearty fare, with cooked breakfasts, picnics and three course dinners, while the service is lovely. A first-class piece of adventure accommodation, it is available on an exclusive basis.

Expedition Camps
Our mobile expedition camps provide access to some of the least visited spots on earth, including the Omo Valley, the Bale Mountains, the Danakil Depression, Chebera Churchura, Wabe Shebelle Valley, and Gheralta, the Simien Mountains and Kafta Sheraro.

Set and struck every few days, each camp consists of a mess tent and a variable number of sleeping tents and provides guests with the opportunity to explore the terrain in their own time, either by vehicle, on foot or by horse. Imported from South Africa, the sleeping tents are wonderfully comfortable, the canvas floors reinforced with thick matting, and come with double or twin beds, a veranda and en-suite hot water and flush-toilet facilities.

Currently, Wild Expeditions operates four mobile expedition camps: Aledeghi, Bale, Danakil and Wabe Shabelle & Sheik Hussein. All are available on an exclusive basis.

Aledeghi Private Mobile Camp
Aledeghi Expedition Camp is set and struck in Aledeghi Wildlife Reserve, which covers some 1,800 square kilometres of grasslands, wooded rises and mountain, and is essentially a wildlife and scenery experience. Wildlife for the area includes lion, cheetah, Beisa oryx, Soemmerring’s gazelle, spotted hyena, northern gerenuk and Grevy’s zebra, Somali ostrich, Arabian bustard, north carmine bee-eater, bat-eared fox, Abyssinian roller and, even, scissor-tailed kite. However, please note that numbers for some of the larger mammals are extremely low.
